Mousehole

Mousehole
is a pretty fishing village only three miles from Penzance. Mousehole,
pronounced Mowzol, still retains its Cornish character, with narrow
streets, granite housing and still worked fishing harbour.
The small harbour has a narrow entrance and the offshore rocks
of St.Clement's Isle and Shag Rock help to act as a breakwater.
For
walkers the famous National Trust cliff walk round the Land´s
End Peninsula starts at Mousehole. One of its most beautiful
stretches is from the village to Lamorna Cove to the south (2.5
miles), the Coastal Footpath continues on towards Penberth and
Porthcurno. The whole walk is full of breathtaking scenery and
the immediate and surrounding coastline is extremely beautiful
being designated an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’
by the National Trust

One
of the last native speakers of Cornish Dolly Pentreath, who died
in 1777 lived in Mousehole. Additionally there is a connection
with Dylan Thomas who spent some time here. It is reputed that
Llargyb in Under Milk Wood is based on the village.
Every Year
the Sea Salt and Sail festival http://www.seasalts.co.uk/ is
held in Mousehole where there is everything from Traditional
music and dancing to fish cooking demonstrations to watch and
taste.
Mousehole has several small shops including a newsagent, post
office, dairy and grocers where fresh produce can be purchased
daily.
